A young nature reserve, as it was developed between 2006 and 2009. Natuurmonumenten developed former agricultural land into an open nature area with a creek bordered by grasslands.
The grasslands are important for many bird species. You may encounter the grebe, lapwing, reed warbler, spoonbill, thrush, coot, reed bunting, oystercatcher, stilt-walker and skylark here. The sparse grasslands are the ideal habitat for special plant species, such as orchids. Consequently, these colourful wildflowers bloom abundantly in the area every spring.
The Volgerland is about 100 hectares and forms an important nature link between other nature areas in Ouddorp. Step off, grab your binoculars and take a walk through the area.
