Cycle route around Brouwersdam
Ouddorp, Renesse, Scharendijke
Once designed as a connecting route between the islands of Schouwen-Duiveland and Goeree-Overflakkee; today, the Brouwersdam is a place full of adventure and relaxation. The six-kilometre-long dam connects South Holland's southernmost island with Zeeland. It is part of the Delta Works. Open to the public since 1971, it has grown into a popular spot for recreation.
With the Grevelingen on one side and the North Sea on the other, the Brouwersdam is perfect for water sports and relaxation. At both ends of the dam are beautiful nature reserves. Around Ouddorp, you cycle from Het Volgerland to D'Onlanden and De Punt. All three areas form a colourful sea of flowering orchids in spring through June. Spoonbills, reed buntings, sedge warblers and skylarks fly about happily.
Also on the Zeeland side of the Brouwersdam, you cycle through beautiful dunes and along the wide sandy beach of Renesse. Bring your binoculars, admire the many birds and maybe even a seal from the various vantage points! Either way, you will enjoy varied dune landscapes and vibrant coastal life on the Brouwersdam with this cycle route.
This route starts at Ouddorp in South Holland and ends at the dam entrance at Scharendijke. Let the Zeeland sun do its work, the clean beaches and salty sea air do the rest. That's all you need to blow away everyday stress!
