Before 1895, there was a standerd mill on this spot. When the grandfather of the previous owner became a miller here in 1895, he demolished the dilapidated stand windmill and built a post windmill. This mill was destroyed by lightning in 1911; only the stone base remained intact. A new windmill was built on this base in 1912, using parts of a windmill that may have originated in North Holland. It is not excluded that this mill used to be in Friesland. During the war years, the windmill served as a military observation post for the Germans and later the Canadians.
The mill is still used to grind grain. Feel free to drop by to see the process.
