Cycling route with many highlights




Barneveld, Amerongen, Veenendaal
This beautiful cycle route takes you past wonderful places and beautiful nature. It starts in Barneveld, where you cycle past the Schaffelaarse Bos. Here you will find the impressive Castle de Schaffelaar, which dates from 1850. Via the centre of Scherpenzeel you cycle in the direction of Amerongen, which is best known for the castle of the same name just south of the cosy village and the Amerongse Berg, a literal highlight of the region. You will also cycle through beautiful forests where you can enjoy the silence.
After Amerongen, follow the route along the edge of Veenendaal, a city with a rich history and various shopping opportunities. You will soon arrive in Renswoude, where Castle Renswoude proudly rises up among the greenery. This 17th-century castle, surrounded by moats and gardens, is a beautiful sight and the perfect place for a short break. The route continues along quiet paths and through green fields, where you can fully experience the atmosphere of the Gelderland landscape.
The tour continues through the charming village of Lunteren, known for its location at the geographical centre of the Netherlands, and the green youth village of De Glind. Here you will cycle along leafy roads and enjoy the alternation between open fields and shady woodlands. This route offers a perfect mix of nature, culture and tranquillity, with many highlights along the way, both literally and figuratively.
