The Plaskerk is Raalte's oldest building thanks to an entry from 1123. Back then, the church was owned by one Lifgerus, after Emperor Hendrik IV of Germany probably gifted the church to him as thanks for his help in the crusades. The current church building was built in the 15th century.
The church got its name from the water pump - and before that the well - that used to stand in the church square. Villagers fetched their water here, but because the well was so crowded, the site subsided. Spilled water therefore remained on the subsided part of the square , which was called 'De Plas'. And this is how the church was eventually designated.
Be sure to check out the inside of the church too. You can admire seccos, ceiling paintings of religious images from the 15th century.
