The Pyramid of Austerlitz is the literal highlight of the Utrecht Hill Ridge. General Marmont had a pyramid built in 1804 as a tribute to his friend and role model Napoleon Bonaparte. The choice of a pyramid was inspired by his campaign in Egypt. The top was crowned with a wooden obelisk. However, this quickly fell into disrepair, so a new obelisk made of stone was built in 1894. Louis Napoleon, Napoleon's brother and then King of Holland, named the monument the Pyramid of Austerlitz, after the battle in what is now the Czech Republic.
At the foot of the pyramid you will find the restaurant with its extensive playground, De Pyramide.
