Cycle route through Doorn and Austerlitz
Doorn, Austerlitz, Amerongen
The Utrecht Hill Ridge is a sandy ridge in the landscape of the Dutch provinces of Utrecht and North Holland, between the Randmeren in the northwest and the Rhine in the southeast. During this route, you cycle through a part of this area where a lot of history can be found. The Doornse Kaap is a hill northeast of Doorn in the Kaapse Bossen. You will also find Huis Doorn nearby. All along the route, you will come across several country houses, estates and castles.
In addition, you will pass through Austerlitz during this cycle route. Here, history goes back to 1804. Auguste de Marmont, general of Napoleon Bonaparte, had half of his troops gathered here. Traders visited the army camp and traded with the soldiers. This settlement was the beginning of the village of Austerlitz, which is best known for its pyramid, a structure commissioned by De Marmont and built by the soldiers.
Of course, you can enjoy the beautiful varied nature in this National Park throughout the route.
