Founded in 1622 on the Loenensebeek, Paper Factory De Middelste Molen had to be rebuilt several times over the centuries due to a fire in the factory.
Commercial production ceased in 1969 and the mill was completely restored in 1994 and 2004. Thanks to support from the Dutch Paper Industry in the late 1980s, the very last authentic Veluwe paper mill is still in professional operation using water power and steam power. Together with the upper-stroke paper mill in the Open Air Museum in Arnhem and windmill De Schoolmeester in Westzaan, De Middelste Molen forms the last trio of traditional paper mills in the Netherlands.
The museum is open five days a week and tours are also given.
