This wood was separated from Huis Doorn in the twentieth century. It is one of the 106 ice cellars that have been preserved in our country. The ice cellar can already be seen on a map from 1792, making it one of the oldest in the Netherlands. The exact building date has not yet been ascertained.
In the ice cellar, food was kept cool and the ice itself was also used. In winter, blocks of ice from the pond were put into the ice cellar. In order to keep the cellar as cold as possible, the entrance faces north and a mound of earth lies over the cellar for insulation. The ice cellar is managed by a foundation that also gives guided tours.
