The fortified town of Woudrichem is part of both the Old and New Dutch Waterline. The fact that Woudrichem, popularly called Woerekum, has a rich military past is partly due to its strategic location. If you stand on the waterfront in Woudrichem, you can see the provinces of Zuid-Holland and Gelderland and the rivers Maas, Waal and Merwede from Noord-Brabant. The ramparts, which are partly grazed by sheep, are worth a walk. One moment you look out over the wide water, the next over picturesque city gardens.
Woudrichem is known for its versatile catering industry and restaurants. With National Park De Biesbosch in the backyard and Slot Loevestein around the corner, it is a wonderful place to visit.
