As early as 1333, documents mention a flour mill in Akersloot. It has long been about 't Wapen van Akersloot, but in 1817 there is mention of De Oude Knegt. It is a history with a lot of trouble.
The mill often changes owners, has been the target of war violence several times, often falls into serious disrepair and always remains a ship of additional skills. Despite all the problems, the mill is constantly being refurbished or rebuilt. The original of the flour mill was 400 meters further south on the west side of the Geesterweg, directly opposite the Laamens Marina.
The mill was in danger of being completely lost in the 1980s. The first plans for recovery were made in 1976. Unfortunately, a fatal fire broke out on New Year's Eve from 2000 to 2001. The fact that there is now a proud mill again is due to the great efforts of many volunteers.
It is not known whether barley was ever milled in this mill or whether malt was processed for the rich beer production in the region. However, every Wednesday and Saturday, grain is still milled thanks to the efforts of volunteers. You can purchase various grain products in the mill shop.
