Nunspeet has traditionally had an agrarian character, with agriculture and cattle breeding being the main economic activities. In the Middle Ages, the area was part of the vast Veluwe, a region known for its forests, heathland and sand drifts. The fertile land near the village was mainly used for arable farming, and the forests served as a source of timber and game.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Nunspeet also became an artists' colony, as its natural surroundings attracted painters who were inspired by the Veluwe landscapes. This artistic heritage is still visible in the village, which hosts several artists and galleries. Nunspeet has developed from a farming village on the Veluwe to a diverse community where tourism, nature and art play an important role. The village combines its rural charm with a more modern role as a recreational hub in the Veluwe.
As you cycle out of Nunspeet again, this agricultural character becomes all the more apparent. You cycle through farmlands, past farms and windmills. Would you like a taste of that agricultural character? Then stop at the farm shop Boeren met liefde. The stall offers local seasonal products. Lots of fruit and juices, but also Angus meat, fruit pastries, vegetables, eggs and spice mixes from the region can be found in the self-service shop. And if you are lucky, you can even try real Nunspeetse Kruudmoes. A traditional dish of buttermilk, groats and spices.
