The brewery, where the traditional Dampegheest beer is brewed with passion, was set up by former hobby brewer Kees Koot with his brother Rinus and friend Herman and is located in an old cheese warehouse in Limmen.
The name Dampegheest comes from the Dampegheest House, which stood a short distance from the current brewery from the 14th to the 19th century. The former driveway to the house is Dampegheestlaan and is located directly behind the brewery. Dampegheest House was completely demolished in 1846, but the silhouette of the house can be found in the logo of the brewery of the same name.
Every third Sunday of the month, from 13.00 to 14.00 hours, there is a guided tour of the brewery on the Achterweg, which ends with a tasting at the Dampegheest tasting room, further along in Limmen. Reservations for the tour can be made via the brewery's website.
Dampegheest brewery has a fixed range of beers, but also brews house beers and specials. The Manusbier from the fixed collection is named after co-founder Herman, who unfortunately died in 2014.
