Museum cycle route in the Achterhoek

Borculo, Ruurlo
The lovely mix of cycling through nature and visiting unexpected museums makes this a perfect day out. In Borculo, you can visit the Fire Brigade Museum or the Crystal Museum.
These museums might not be super well-known, but that’s exactly why they’re such a fun surprise. You’ll be amazed at how much cool stuff there is to see. At the Fire Brigade Museum, you’ll find the largest collection of old fire engines and firefighting gear in the Netherlands. At the Crystal Museum, you can check out crystals, minerals, gemstones and fossils – and learn the stories behind them.
You’ll follow the Berkel river until it splits into the Berkel and the Slinge. From there, you continue your ride along this stream toward Ruurlo. Along the way, you’ll pass the charming De Lebbenbrugge farmhouse museum – a farm with a story that starts all the way back around 1400.
Once in Ruurlo, make sure to visit the stunning Ruurlo Castle. The castle alone is worth the stop, but inside you’ll also find Museum More – packed with magical paintings by artist Carel Willink.
