This pool, created by excavation for peat extraction, is home to pike, eel and catfish. There are as many as 50 marinas around these ponds. The Ringvaart canal connects this lake to the other lakes on this scenic route.
Via the Leimuiderdijk, the route continues to the Braassemermeer, where the first windmill on the route also appears. The Googermolen is, in case of extreme flooding, still used today as an auxiliary pumping station for the Googerpolder. Through Roelofarendsveen and then the polders of Nieuwe Wetering, you cycle towards the Kagerplassen, a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Sixteen shallow pools, marshes, windmills, beaches, nature reserves, farms and lots of special windmills: here you will enjoy the primeval Dutch landscape and everything that goes with it. Get off the bike in quick succession here. Take the time to admire some of them in more detail.
