Cycling route along the rivers and through the Betuwe part 2
Rijswijk, Amerongen, Veenendaal
This cycling route takes you along one of the most famous rivers in the Netherlands, the Rhine. The official name for the part of the Rhine that flows through the Netherlands is the Nederrijn, but colloquially it is simply the Rhine. The Nederrijn is the branch of the Rhine that runs from the Pannerdensch Kanaal near Angeren to Wijk bij Duurstede. There the river splits into the Lek and the Kromme Rijn. If you feel like a vacation to Switzerland, just follow the Rhine to the south and you'll get there!
Would you like to take a break during your bike ride and see something fun or beautiful? Then get off at one of the three windmills on this route. Renswoude Castle is also a must, and the tobacco growing museum in Amerongen is interesting for anyone who wants to learn a little more about the ancient history of tobacco.
