Cycle route along the Utrecht Nederrijn
Veenendaal, Rhenen, Amerongen
This cycle route takes you along one of the best-known rivers in the Netherlands: the Rhine. Or actually the Lower Rhinie (Nederrijn), because the part that the Rhine flows through in the Netherlands is officially called the Nederrijn. Actually it is even more complicated, because at the moment that the Rhine flows into the Netherlands, the river splits into the Waal and the Pannerdensch Kanaal at Millingen aan de Rijn. The Pannerdensch Kanaal only merges into the Nederrijn near the Gelderland town of Angeren, which winds its way through Gelderland and Utrecht until it merges into the Lek at Wijk bij Duurstede. With this route you will get to know the Utrecht part of the river. You follow the junctions as close as possible to the water from Rhenen to Amerongen. Enjoy the beautiful floodplains, the dikes and the beautiful nature on the river banks. Then you head into the country, to the forest! This route combines the river with a piece of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Cycle through the pleasant towns of Scherpenzeel, Renswoude and Veenendaal, where we have added a number of interesting sights for enthusiasts. Tip: Start at one of the TOPs on this route. Here you will find ample parking and you are almost immediately on the junction route.
