Zeldenrust windmill, Nieuw Scheemda - Nieuw-Scheemda
The mill is located on Buiten Nieuwediep, between Noordbroek and Nieuw Scheemda. There is a car park halfway down Pastorieweg, from where the mill can be reached on foot or by bicycle.
The mill was built in 1862 to replace an earlier mill from 1798, which was destroyed by fire that same year. The new mill was built by millwright Kamphuis from Nieuwolda. In 1967, the water board, along with other neighbouring polders, was merged into the Oldambt water board. As a result, the old steam pumping station and the miller's house were demolished.
The mill was preserved as a reserve pumping station and underwent a thorough restoration in 1970. A new restoration began in 2010, so that the 150th anniversary could be celebrated in 2012.
