It is buzzing with life in this thick tree worked into a bench. Flowers, a beehive, a honeycomb and a bee hive are all captured in this huge woodcut. The scene refers to the apiary directly behind it. On the side of the bench, you can also see another reference to the Hidden Village. This was a hiding place for people in hiding during World War II, right here nearby in the forest near Vierhouten.
Sculpture sawyer or tree sculptor Sander Boom (Apeldoorn, 1978) has won many awards for both woodcarving and icecarving. Using a special chainsaw, he carves old trees and branches into sculptures. In Wenum Wiesel, he is working on a sculpture trail where several woodcarving works will be exhibited.
