This beautiful estate is run by the Bout family. You are welcome to take in the natural beauty while walking around the estate. The historic buildings on the estate each have their own function. For instance, the former Stookhuis and Koetshuis is now a Bed & Breakfast and there is boarding for horses in the back house.
Cycle along the long driveway to Huize Welgelegen from 1881, with a beautiful red beech tree in the front garden. The country house now serves as Landrestaurant De Hooiberg (open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon). Everything you taste here is made by the Bout sisters.
Unique to the Welgelegen estate is the Tin Museum. Mother Bout has displayed her collection of some 2,000 tins here. From cans from the early days of tin production to modern cans. Nostalgic tins from the likes of Douwe Egberts, Verkade and Pette, but also from the former coffee roasting company Houwink in Meppel and various cigar and cigarette tins. The ultimate showpiece is the tin steam locomotive of the Glim factory from Rotterdam. The Tin Museum is open on weekends in July and August.
