This remarkable building was designed by American architect John Quentin Hejduk. Originally designed in 1973 as a recreation house for landscape architect A.E. Bye, it was only finally built in Groningen in 2001 during the Blue Moon event.
A huge wall 18.5 metres wide and 14 metres high is the centrepiece of the design. The various spaces are ‘suspended’ from it. Remarkably, the exterior of the building is very colourful and the interior very subdued. The house has been under the management of the Groninger Museum since 2016.
The house can be visited by appointment only. You can hear the story about the architect and this house, enjoy design objects by Studio Job or enjoy the view on benches by architect Alessandro Mendini. On the lower floor, children can get creative.
