Max von Gimborn was a manufacturer of pen-ink and a great lover of conifers and rhododendrons. He bought 47 hectares of land on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug in 1924 and moved his young tree collection here. Initially, the plan was also to live on the land. But the crisis years forced him to sell his factory and the planned villa was never built. He collected different types of trees and shrubs on the site: an arboretum. Today it is called the National Tree Museum and you will find around 3000 species from all over the world.
