Everything comes to an end, even the Van den Acker family textile factory, which existed for more than two hundred years. It was even awarded the title of Purveyor to the Court in 2007. The factory always remained in the hands of the family members of founder Johan van den Acker, but almost ten years later the company went bankrupt.
This was not the first time the factory had gone out of business. As early as 1905, a great-grandson of the founder made a fresh start, transforming the factory into a steam-powered weaving mill. A fine example of dogged perseverance.
The former textile factory is now being redeveloped into an ‘urban residential area’ with an industrial look, while retaining the rich history of the Van den Acker textile factory. The chimney, the old office, the director's residence and several other elements from the factory's past will remain. Within a few years, people will be living here on historic textile ground.
