In Ellemeet, you'll find the travalje in the Dorpsstraat. Still on the spot where it was traditionally used, namely right in front of the old-fashioned smithy. On the facade of this authentic building hangs a wrought-iron model indicating the forge.
The travalje is not the only trace of the forge. On the little square, you can also see a round stone anchored in the ground. This was used to fasten an iron band around a wooden wheel of a former farm cart.
During Open Monument Days in September, horses are shod in the travaljes. Very nice to see how the farrier manages to provide a sturdily built draft horse with new horseshoes.
