Nature takes its own course in this naturally-occurring swamp forest. The Prielenbos lies north of the Zoetermeer Lake and has three types of vegetation: a swamp, a reed bed and an open poplar forest. A decking path runs through this marshy area to make the marshy nature reserve accessible to hikers.

Because the Prielen forest is not easily accessible to people everywhere, it is one of the most important bird nesting areas in the region. There is an observation hut in the Prielenbos to spot the wide variety of birds.
