Thomas Bat'a (pronounced 'Batja') once started his shoe factory in Zlín, Czechoslovakia. Through clever entrepreneurship and mechanisation combined with good prices, he managed to become one of Europe's largest shoe manufacturers. The old factory has since undergone a metamorphosis and, as a result of modernisation, only 120 of the 2500 employees remain. You can now visit the Bata superstore and work shoes are still produced here. At the main entrance there is a museum that can be visited and where you can find a lot about the history of Bata industrials.
We recommend making a reservation by e-mail. The manager can tell you a lot about the history of the company if he knows that you are coming.
