The current mill was built as a successor to a stand mill, in which barley and rice were peeled in addition to milling corn. The creation of this mill goes back to the founding of the nearby mill located near the Saint John Camp in 1399. It was customary at that time that the mill’s owner, who had also given the mill the right to wind, paid maintenance for the exterior part of the mill, while the tenant paid the maintenance for the work in progress. In 1991 the municipality of Vollenhove became the owner of the mill. After many complications, the restoration permit was granted in 1995, which gave an impulse to convert mass tourism in this area of Giethoorn into more cultural and educational recreation. The restoration started in 1995 and was completed in 1997.
