Enjoy the cycle route around Giethoorn
Giethoorn, Blokzijl, Vollenhove
This cycle route will take you to Giethoorn, part of the municipality of Steenwijkerland. Giethoorn is of course known for its 'streets' formed by ditches and ditches. Because of the paints in the past, lakes and lakes were created. To transport the peat they dug waterways and ditches. Many houses are as it were built on islands, which can only be reached by bridges. Most of the more than 176 bridges are privately owned. The only continuous connection through the old village by land is a cycle and adjoining footpath that runs from Noordeinde to Zuideinde. This path is only interrupted by the Kerkweg between Noordeinde and Middenbuurt. The main traffic takes place over the water, with the most important traditional vessel being the punter.
