On 11 May 1940, the Germans took over the radio station Radio Kootwijk. This strategically located transmitting station was used for communication with submarines and other military operations of the German navy. The Germans built a garage near the station for the vehicles of high-ranking officers and other important figures visiting the station.
This garage was thus built much later than the other buildings on the site, which date from the 1918-1923 period, by a different architect and in a different style. The garage stands on Radioweg, behind the two pump houses, next to the water tower and is today a catering establishment.
During your bike ride through the beautiful surroundings, you can stop here for a nice drink, a simple lunch or a cup of coffee and a pastry. From the spacious, sunny terrace, you have a nice view of the special buildings on this site.
