Cycle route around Apeldoorn
Apeldoorn, Radio Kootwijk, Beekbergen
The beautiful city of Apeldoorn is surrounded by greenery and offers you rest and relaxation. Explore famous attractions such as Paleis Het Loo, the Apenheul and Queen Julianatoren, as well as the cosy city centre. The Marktplein is the city's terraced square.
In the middle of the Marktplein, where the weekly market and the nostalgic Raadhuisplein can be found, stands the Old Town Hall. Below the spot where a terrace now stands, there used to be a church. The now dilapidated church was demolished in 1842 to make way for the market square and town hall. The foundations of the old church were discovered during excavations. Metal lines depict the foundations on the square.
You don't have to leave Apeldoorn far to reach the unique departure station of the Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij. You will find this museum station and the historic steam train in Beekbergen, a small village located on the edge of the Veluwe. Also be sure to visit the Ford Museum here, housed in a 16th-century water mill where paper used to be made. You will admire a collection of vintage Ford oldtimers from 1900 to 1935.
Beekbergen and its surroundings are a popular area for cyclists and hikers, as well as wildlife photographers. In the forests between Hoenderloo and Kootwijk, you have a good chance of encountering wild boar or deer! Be sure to bring your camera, because the route leads you right through those forests
Discover the Netherlands' most extensive nature reserve and visit the cathedral of Radio Kootwijk. This used to be a radio station connecting with overseas territories. Today, it is mainly an impressive cultural-historical monument. This cycle route offers everything you need for a great day out by bike!
