Castle TerWorm is a castle located near the Dutch-Limburg town of Welten, in the municipality of Heerlen. The castle is part of the Terworm estate of the same name, which includes the Eikendermolen. Castle TerWorm, beautifully situated in the valley of the Geleenbeek, was built around 1400. Two families had possessory rights to the castle. The van Gitsbach family, called Van der Worm, and the Cortenbach family. After this, the castle was still owned by a number of families.
Castle TerWorm underwent six renovations in five hundred years. The current appearance of the castle dates from 1890. In 1890 the castle receives a completely new facade with a turret, giving it its appearance in neo-Renaissance style. From 1917 to 1988, the Oranje-Nassau mines owned the castle and estate. At the castle during that period lived superintendents, artists, the forester and the lifeguard of the outdoor swimming pool in the forest behind the castle.
In 1987, the estate with castle was bought by the Van der Valk concern, which turned it into a hotel-restaurant. You can now enjoy biking, hiking and golfing, enjoy a terrace in Maastricht or laze by the castle's moat. Mediterranean dishes and fragrant summer herbs adorn the menu. Of course, it's nice and long after summer in Heuvelland. Discover the undulating Heuvelland landscape with nostalgic villages and towns, hidden between green meadows and colorful standard orchards. It is the ideal environment to relax.
