Cycle route Peace and quiet near Heerlen
Heerlen, Simpelveld, Wittem
A cycle route to make you speechless... While cycling through the South-Limburg hills you will get to know beautiful nature and monuments that will make you relax.
When you have just left the center of Heerlen, you already enter the first great nature reserve: the Imstenraderbos. Here you only hear the singing of the birds and the rustling of the wind through the trees. Nature is so varied here that it is like South Limburg in miniature. You see tall majestic beech trees, ancient summer oaks, thickets, orchards and deep gullies in the landscape. The peace and quiet here is wonderful. So do many animal species. Badgers, owls and bats feel completely at home here.
More nature can be found in the protected area Terworm. In the middle of the marshes and deciduous forests you will find the impressive TerWorm castle, as well as a ruin of the medieval castle of Eyckholt. The place is a reminder of a glorious past. The Lourdes grotto in Simpelveld and the monastery in Wittem are inspiring places to contemplate for yourself.
At node 101 you are close to the historic Weltermolen windmill. It is a small deviation from the junction route, but well worth the effort. This centuries-old water mill is one of the most beautiful in the Netherlands! An interesting place with a long history in the friendly village of Welten.
Even Wijngoed Fromberg gives you silence: it is the producer of Limburg sparkling and still wines. Of course this silence is silence with a wink, but because of the fine, quality wines we definitely recommend a visit to the vineyard!
This wonderful cycle route brings you contemplation, gives you peace and quiet and lets you completely relax: a recommendation for nature lovers or for a relaxing day during your vacation.
