Here you get a unique insight into nature's powers of recovery. In June 2021, a fall wind raged over Leersum. The storm led to huge material damage in the village. Part of the Breeveen forest was also blown over. Some 16 hectares of forest here are no longer in their former state.
Utrechts Landschap chose to leave the ravaged area as it was and not to restore the forest. Via a decking path, you can now see how the forest recovers itself and the 'mikado' of fallen trees and dead branches becomes visible. In the havoc, you can see how new vegetation is slowly gaining ground.
