What began as Count Reinald I of Gelre's dream for a town, transformed into an estate that still cherishes those urban rights. Indeed, in 1298, this estate was granted city rights by Rudolph von Habsburg.
With 718 hectares of nature, including forests, farmland and historic structures such as a white castle and monumental farms, Staverden represents the "smallest town in the world".
A nice place to get off during a cycle route through the surrounding nature. Kasteel Staverden is also a good place to start your cycle route as there is ample parking.
