Joop Beljon (1922-2002) was director of the Royal Academy of Visual Arts for 27 years. For his work both at home and abroad, he won the Wilhelminaring in 1998, the oeuvre prize for Dutch Sculpture. Joop Beljon was an environmental artist. He often collaborated with architects on behalf of the Government Buildings Agency, including in Apeldoorn, Arnhem, The Hague, Groningen, Nijmegen and Utrecht. He also worked in Bahrain, Israel, Mexico and the United States.
