Proud and stately, the white peacock stands atop a large vase in the castle garden of Staverden estate. Its crest proudly upright and its imposing plumage loose under its body. He looks up at an angle and seems to survey the beautiful castle garden with satisfaction. At the base of the vase, a second white peacock is looking around contentedly. To view the sculpture, walk from the visitor centre past the manor house to the castle garden.
This sandstone sculpture on a tall square plinth is an official National Monument. Real white peacocks have lived on the estate for centuries. The statue is part of a large geometric garden commissioned by the then owner Frederik Bernhard 's Jacob in 1907. It is unclear how old the statue is and by whom it was made, possibly it had been on the estate for much longer.
