Inspired by Bert Haanstra's film Fanfare, Pepe Gregoire created this work of art in the setting of the film. Fanfare, made in 1958, is a classic in Dutch film history. It uniquely portrayed the picturesque village of Giethoorn and put it on the map as the ‘Venice of the North’. Gregoire's artwork honours not only the film, but also village life, the music and the nostalgic atmosphere that was so strikingly captured in the film.
The cinematic aura and historical setting of the artwork evoke a sense of recognition and nostalgia in visitors. It reflects the vibrancy of brass band culture, in which music unites and brings village communities together.
