Sloehaven east of Vlissingen is an industrial powerhouse at the mouth of the Westerschelde estuary. In its deep channels, you'll find container ships, oil tankers and maybe even the occasional cruise ship. The port, which together with the other ports around Vlissingen, is considered the third largest in the Netherlands, has modern loading and unloading facilities, quays and terminals suitable for different types of cargo.
The Sloe area was created by embanking the Zuid-Sloe from 1961 to 1964. And in 1964, then Queen Juliana opened the port officially called Vlissingen-Oost. If you want to know much more about the port, book a canal cruise with Denick. If you prefer to explore the port by bike, do keep an eye on safety regulations and stay on the designated cycle paths.
