Large twisted horns, a crooked neck, tightened muscles and curved legs: the little Moeflon is all set to attack and deliver a huge headbutt. The animal's right foreleg has already lifted fearsomely. Moeflons occurred in two large groups on the Hoge Veluwe until recently, but since the arrival of the wolf, the population has been greatly reduced. Fortunately, the sculpture in Nunspeet will survive for many years to come.
Artist Cornelis Johan Vrendenberg (Heerlen, 1911-1994) was not only a sculptor, but also a painter, woodcarver, modeller and architect. From 1954, he lived and worked on the Veluwe. Together with painter Jaap Hiddink, he founded the Free Academy of Visual Arts in Nunspeet.
