Oostdijk (roe) - Goedereede
The fields around Oostdijk almost all border directly on the dunes, the favourite habitat of this small deer species. In the dunes the roe deer find cover and safety, in the fields and meadows they look for food.
Sometimes it is quite difficult to spot the animals against a background of sand or dry mud. So it takes a while to spot them, but it is almost always a hit here. Don't be surprised if you see a whole group. Deer generally like each other's company and together you are stronger against enemies. There are not that many of these on Goeree, so it is no wonder that there are more and more ‘gazelles of the low countries’.
