Ommermars and bird hide the egg - Ommen
The Ommermars is a new area on the outskirts of Ommen where nature is central. The motto of the initiators, of the Ommermars citizens' initiative foundation, is "for and by Ommen people". There is a playground and a bird-watching hut, there are footpaths, cycle paths, a rest area and a dog-walking area.
This land was once common property of the Marke Stad-Ommen. It was used to graze cattle. For members of the Marke Stad-Ommen, this right to graze a calf cost 50 cents, a guilder for a cow and a horse 1.50 guilders. For people outside the marke, the prices were a lot higher.
The bird hide in the shape of an egg is a work of art by Eric Schutte from Ommen. Enter the egg and look through the bird silhouettes at the beautifully landscaped nature reserve.
