The Town Hall complex in Kampen was in use as a town hall until 2001. In the Middle Ages, it served as a place where the city council announced decisions and displayed criminals. Today, the building is home to the City Museum Kampen.
The Old Town Hall originally dates from around 1350 and was a courthouse for many years. After a fire in 1543, only the outer walls, basement and part of the first floor remained standing.
After reconstruction, the building combines late Gothic and Renaissance styles. The current statues on the west facade were made in the 1930s and replaced the damaged medieval statues. The medieval statues can still be seen in the Koornmarkt Gate.
The Schepen Hall, where justice was administered since the Middle Ages, was completed in 1545 and has remained virtually unchanged since then.
