The Filenspolder is a modest nature reserve of only 23 hectares. Experts did not expect a viable meadow bird population to develop here, but nature has developed differently. The number of meadow birds is growing steadily, especially lapwings and godwits feel at home here. Yellow wagtails and redshanks have also found their way to this area. Only in late summer, when the chicks have grown up, the Filenspolder is mowed by Natuurmonumenten and the landscape regains its agricultural function with grazing sheep and cows.
The photo of the Filenspolder was taken for Natuurmonumenten by Ferry Siemensma.
