Nature reserve De Wolvetinte is located near the Frisian village of It Heidenskip. It is a valuable habitat for birds such as avocets, lapwings, little plovers and oystercatchers. It is also home to migratory birds and the rare ruff. The area was returned to nature in 2012 and transformed from agricultural polder to nature polder.
It owes its name to a farm from 1741, which was destroyed by the devouring sea during a storm in 1825. Archaeological finds from that time can be seen in the museum ‘Skerven fan “e Skar” at Skar 4 in It Heidenskip. A work of art in the water recalls the vanished farm.
A lovely walking route allows you to explore the nature of De Wolvetinte and De Fluessen. During the breeding season (1 March-1 July), some parts are closed, but the bird viewpoint at the Skar remains open. The area offers tranquillity and beautiful nature for hikers and birdwatchers.
