Workum, Hindeloopen, Koudum

You stroll along the coast of the IJsselmeer to Eleven Cities town Hindeloopen, where you should definitely delve into the town's own art scene. In earlier times, products such as pottery, furniture and clothing were decorated with the most beautiful floral art by Hindeloopen artists. These items were then taken as merchandise across the seas. You can still see a number of studios in town where you can admire the original art craft.

Workum is also an Elf Cities town. Did you know that the Eleven Cities - apart from Stavoren - are protected townscapes? Both Hindeloopen and Workum are packed with national monuments. You will also find the Jopie Huisman museum here. The authentic works of this extraordinary painter must be seen at least once.

Koudum has a small harbour on the Koudumervaart canal. Special attractions here include the Martinikerk, a number of traditional farms and the polder mills. Of course, you'll also find nice terraces here.

Via nature reserves such as It Wolvetinte and extensive polder landscape, you pass two small villages: It Heidenskip and Molkwerum. Despite their small size, they are still two special neighbourhoods. In Molkwerum, look up at the national monumental church tower on Sint-Lubuïnuskerk in Molkwerum or visit the small bakery shop (open only in spring and summer). Check out the historic windmills, authentic farms and small Frisian houses in It Heidenskip. Oh, and who knows, you might see a group of fierljeppers in these polders; in It Heidenskip they have their own fierljep association!
