Michiel de Ruyter was very important to the Dutch Navy. As a tribute, 14 ships have been named after the admiral in past centuries. Currently, the HNLMS De Ruyter (F 804) sails around the world in the service of the Navy.
In Vlissingen, you can board the 1954 warship ex-HNLMS Mercuur. This ship is the oldest wooden minesweeper of the Royal Netherlands Navy and is now a living history museum ship.
Discover what it's like to live and work aboard a ship and go in search of the statue of De Ruyter.
