On 21 September 1944, several resistance groups of the Internal Armed Forces were combined to form the Regiment Stoottroepen. The regiment was commanded by Prince Bernhard and consisted of former members of the armed resistance groups (knokploegen) and the Ordedienst (Order Service). After the war, the regiment was integrated into the Dutch armed forces The unit was ceremonially named after Prince Bernhard in 2002, in recognition of his role during the war and his leadership of the Internal Armed Forces.
The museum pays attention to the commitment, courage and fighting spirit of the Stoters, as these soldiers have traditionally been called. On the ground floor is a silence room, where fallen Stoters can be commemorated. The first floor is dedicated to the Second World War, here the resistance against the German occupation forces is also discussed in detail in the exhibition ‘From resistance to red beret.’
The Historical Collection RSPB is located on military property. Visitors must therefore identify themselves at the guardhouse of the Johan Willem Friso Barracks on Balkenweg 3. There, you will be picked up by museum staff. Bicycles can be parked next to the building. Admission is free, as is coffee, tea and lemonade.
