Cycle route Pieterpad | Assen & Rolde

Schipborg, Assen, Rolde
Two friends, Toos and Bertje, developed the Pieterpad between 1978 and 1983: a 500-km long-distance hiking trail running from Pieterburen in Groningen to Mount St Peter in Limburg. This iconic route consists of 26 easily accessible stages, with plenty of opportunities to spend the night. The landscape along the way is extremely varied, but equally beautiful everywhere.
Where you can walk, you can also cycle! That is why we have put together a series of cycle routes inspired by the Pieterpad. In total, this cycling route covers almost 1300 km, always returning you to your Starting point. This specific part takes you from Schipborg via Assen and Rolde to Gasselte.
Along the way you will encounter beautiful vistas and impressive sights. But of course you should also take the time to enjoy a well-deserved break at a nice café or restaurant.
For example in the centre of Assen: not only a pleasant city, but also the location of the Drents Museum. Here you will discover why Drenthe is known as the primeval province.
You continue your journey north through farmlands and characteristic farms. Quiet waters and meandering rivers glisten in the landscape. The landscape of the Drentsche Aa National Park is extraordinary!
Would you like to cycle this route and see many sights? See if you can spend the night somewhere in the area, because it is definitely worth it!
Here you can expand your route with pitstops
