In Orvelte, you really do go back in time. Orvelte was founded in the 10th century. Here you can taste the unique character of Drenthe. You cycle over old cobbled roads and cobblestones into the village and are immediately surrounded by monumental farms and stately trees.
Visit the sweet shop for old Dutch sweets or try one of the old Dutch games and toys. In summer, you can take the horse-drawn tram for a scenic ride through the village. De Orvelte Poort is also a recommendation. In this shop you can get all kinds of Drenthe products.
Next door is the Ottenshoes, a farm from 1860 where the Otten family lived around 1900. You can still see the old utensils in the original interior, the hay barn, sheep pen and peat shed.
Special markets and theme days are regularly organised in the village centre, so who knows, you might just fall head over heels.
