De Jonge Sophia (The Young Sophia) is a corn mill with very unusual characteristics for the province of Zuid-Holland. The mill was built on the municipal boundary of the villages of Ottoland and Goudriaan and used to mill for both of them, but eventually languished for a long time on a company property.
At the end of October 1999, a group of concerned volunteers, in cooperation with the business community and the government, rescued the then remaining and dilapidated mill from the demolition hammer, literally at the very last moment. The volunteers who had saved the mill formed a working group and set about restoring it to its former glory. On 30 March 2007, the mill was officially put back into use.
